How I started cooking

I did not understand food. And I was the exact opposite of what a foodie is. I always had this fantasy that ONE DAY! I will cook. But I kept pushing that day to after college, after work, after Post Grad and now, “after I finish my Yoga course”.

We will have mental blocks about one thing or the other. It is so obvious to you that you CANNOT do a certain thing that you absolutely fail to realize it is a block.

No matter what it is, it can be as small as, “I cannot travel alone”. “I cannot dance”. “OMG I cannot speak with him face to face”. Or any other “I cannot” you can think about.

But two weeks back I took it on myself to cook my lunch or not eat at all. Keeping my stomach empty would mean that I would not have the strength to go to Yoga class and that is something I couldn’t afford to miss out on.

So I started preparing a simple tomato rice dish and cooked it almost every day. Recently I learned how to cook roti and later, capsicum aloo bhaji and daal tadka + jeera rice.

My biggest motivator was the first word of Patanjali’s first yoga sutra which is अथ i.e. NOW. How I interpret it is – if you want to do something, take an action in the present moment.

I am extremely thankful to my friends, my sister, and Abhi who have always encouraged me.

This post is dedicated to Reshmy, Shubha aunty, Sonya, Dimple, Abhi, Upasana, and Sankhesh.
